Senior Analyst - Business Development

The Senior Business Analyst plays a key role in identifying, analyzing and evaluating internal and external business opportunities from multiple sources to drive pipeline growth. This role focuses on sourcing and assessing potential third-party partnerships, licensing deals, and product acquisitions. This role requires a strong ability to gather, track, and interpret data from multiple sources to provide valuable market insights, competitive intelligence, and emerging trends.
Leveraging prior experience, the Senior Business Analyst will assess new internal and external business opportunities, build financial models, and support strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, demonstrates a high degree of self-motivation, and contributes to improving pipeline management and business development processes to support the company’s growth objectives.
Duties and responsibilities
- Scouting, evaluating and assessing new licensing opportunities in collaboration with business units.
- Lead new external business development projects, from initial product evaluation to negotiations, term sheet, due diligence, agreement execution and product launch.
- Evaluate internal and external business opportunities through in-depth market research and portfolio analysis
- Analyze market trends and competitive intelligence to identify new opportunities in the Canadian pharmaceutical market.
- Develop financial models, including NPV analysis, to assess potential products and business development initiatives.
- Establish and manage relationships with external partners.
- Represent the company at business development events and conferences to identify and explore new opportunities.
- Ensure smooth integration of new third-party products by coordinating with internal teams (Sales, Marketing, R&D, Portfolio Management, IP, and Regulatory).
- Oversee the transition of new product launches from the BD team to Sales & Marketing, ensuring a seamless handover.
- Maintain and update product models, evaluations, and portfolio databases to support ongoing business assessments.
- Collaborate with R&D, Portfolio Management & Regulatory Affairs to track & facilitate timely development, filing and approval of pipeline products.
- Work closely with global product launch teams and project managers to ensure successful and timely product launches.
- Research, recommend and manage the acquisition of new data sources and business intelligence tools.
- Develop launch forecasts, pricing strategies, and trade dress evaluations in coordination with Sales & Marketing.
- Partner with internal teams, including Sales & Marketing and Global Portfolio & BD, to identify therapeutic trends, new opportunities and support a robust product pipeline and target lists for each business division.
Additional responsibility (Only applicable to customer facing roles)
Report any adverse event received from customers for company products to the pharmacovigilance department / Drug Safety on the same day or within 1 business day
Qualifications
- University level degree in Science, Business or equivalent.
- 3-5 years of experience in business development, or portfolio management.
- Strong knowledge of the Canadian pharma market, (branded, generic, hospital, specialty, biosimilars and OTC.)
- Experience with generic pharmaceutical portfolios and/or product development is an asset.
- Prior experience and skills in networking, contract negotiation and deal making.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize large datasets into meaningful insights.
- Problem-solving skills with the ability to streamline workflows and improve efficiencies.
- A thorough understanding and interpretation of IMS/IQVIA data/solutions, IPD & other equivalent analytical tools.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks effectively, and adapt to changing business needs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience working cross-functionally.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Access, and Power Point.
Working conditions
5-15% travel.
