Manager, Environment, Health and Safety

Responsible for the development, implementation and oversight of Environmental, Health and Safety policies and programs placing emphasis on protection of employees and the environment in compliance with legislative requirements.
Duties and responsibilities
- Plans, develops, implements and audits the Health and Safety program and is responsible for the following areas: working with the Ministry of Labour, WHMIS, WSIB, fire prevention, accident prevention and investigation, safety education and working with the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
- Managing environmental issues, including dealing with the Ministry of Environment, meeting legislative requirements and managing waste streams.
- Establishes health and safety policies and programs, conducts audits, ensures compliance, and promotes changes required to develop a safe and healthy environment.
- Responsible for implementation of SUN Health, Safety and Environment policies
- Responsible for HSE KPI reporting
- Develops plans, strategies and identifies the delivery method for the education and training of management, supervisors, and employees relative to health and safety issues.
- Develops and maintains a post offer medical evaluation program.
- Documents and maintains medical surveillance programs in accordance with the occupational Health, and Safety Act.
- Practicing high quality Workplace Safety & Insurance Board claims management.
- Complete all GMP Documentation correctly and in a timely manner
- Complete all training assignments and maintain personal training records
- Participate in and/or lead Non Conformance Investigations
- Complete Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA’s)
- Initiate, and follow through with actions required to close Change Controls
- Participate in Internal, Customer and Regulatory Audits.
- Other duties as assigned
Additional responsibility (Only applicable to customer facing roles)
Report any adverse event received from customers for company products to the pharmacovigilance department / Drug Safety on the same day or within 1 business day
Qualifications
- Minimum post-secondary education (B.Sc. degree preferred) combined with a certification in Occupational Safety and Health. Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) is preferred, or willing to attain.
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant management health & safety experience within an industrial environment and laboratory setting.
- Comprehensive knowledge in occupational hygiene, industrial safety, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations.
- Understanding of the Environmental Protection Act and related environmental legislation to fulfill requirements for hazardous waste, air emissions, and other environmental reporting.
- Familiarity with WSIB claims management, construction projects, Pre-Start Health & Safety Reviews, and contractor safety an asset.
- Excellent knowledge of applicable OHS laws, regulations and standards.
- Ability to provide training at all levels in the organization.
- Familiar with behavioral safety principles.
- A self-starter with the ability to manage priorities.
- Promote, establish and maintain a good team spirit
- Change management skills (performing risk analysis and implementation of controls).
- Sound knowledge in occupational hygiene within lab and production environments (asset).
- Technical knowledge of the EHS management methods and systems, as well as their implementation.
- Safety and occupational health problem solving experience is necessary. The work typically requires interpretation of a variety of occupational circumstances to adapt known control or protective measures to eliminate or minimize hazardous situations.
- Work assignments require the identification of elements contributing to human and machine failure which may lead to injury or property damage.
Working conditions
- Working conditions will vary. The Environment, Health and Safety Manager will be required to work in all areas throughout Canadian operations of Sun Pharma Canada Inc.
