Packaging Technical Trainer - II

The Packaging Technical Trainer - II works closely with Packaging Supervisors and Line Leaders to develop and deliver technical training and to ensure that new hires and existing staff members are well-trained and ready to perform effectively. The Packaging Technical Trainer - II will be responsible for delivering targeted and successful training programs of major and minor Packaging assets, assessing effectiveness and making improvements, as needed. The role owner will be a key champion in improving the New Hire Experience.
Duties and responsibilities
- Conducts and presents training session curriculum for the Packaging Department focusing on advanced training programs for major assets and automation systems including, but not limited to, Fillers, Cartoners, Case Packers, Robots, Track and Trace Systems. Also conducts training for the routine set-up, operation, cleaning and troubleshooting of minor assets including, but not limited to, box tapers, sleevers, labelers, carton trackers, conveyors and basic inspection systems.
- Lead troubleshooting workshops and continuous improvement initiatives
- Instructs participants in a specific subject area utilizing training techniques such as on-the-job training, individual/team training, demonstrations, and workshops.
- Develops training goals, objectives, session plans, and training aids.
- Identifies technical skill gaps and recommends targeted training plans.
- Writes training manuals and prepares instructional guides, examinations, troubleshooting techniques, and other training session support materials. Ensures training materials reflect the current requirements of relevant regulatory bodies (i.e. Health Canada, FDA).
- Keeps track of the training progress and makes necessary adjustment in the training program as required.
- Ensures that, during the training process, there is significant focus on EHS and Quality systems (i.e. GMP, GDP, documentation integrity).
- Ensures that trainees are fully conversant with integrated electronic systems, i.e. MES, OSM, serialization and aggregations etc.
- Develops participant qualification/re-qualification requirements.
- Determines, develops, and analyzes metrics and evaluation feedback to make recommendations for improving curriculum and programs.
- Leads the new hire technical/functional orientation in the Packaging Department working collaboratively with leaders, and SMEs.
- Maintains records of learning and development activities including attendance, assessment results, engagement, and retraining requirements. Coordinates ETP grant funding and related reporting.
- Maintains knowledge of the latest trends in learning and development.
- Maintains effective communication, coordination, and working relationships with team members and management.
- Sustainable training content creation and long-term retention.
- Maintains a database of all training materials.
- Participate in Internal, Customer and Regulatory Audits.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years’ Manufacturing or Packaging hands-on experience in a regulated environment, preferably in Pharma.
- Experience in delivering training and developing and delivering presentations would be an asset.
- Strong Health and Safety systems experience.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
- Videography and content creation experience is desired.
- Intermediate level skills with MS Office Suite.
- Must have knowledge of GMP requirements and manufacturing processes.
- Must have ability and desire to learn multiple design and delivery methods, and gain a working knowledge about, and train others in, GMP pharmaceutical manufacturing processes.
- Must have demonstrated ability to train and mentor staff to higher levels of performance.
- Ability to create and present effective training for individuals and groups.
