Electrical Technologist

The Electrical Technologist will provide support to the Packaging and Compounding operations with troubleshooting and repairing electronics and control systems on lines and vessels respectively. The Technologist will be the owner for the Calibration and PLC Program within Packaging and Compounding.
Duties and responsibilities
- Lead troubleshooting and on-going maintenance of electronic and control systems on Packaging Lines and Compounding Vessels.
- Execute planned and unplanned maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of electrical equipment in a high-uptime production facility.
- Install, service, maintain, and troubleshoot a wide spectrum of plant electrical equipment and machinery in low-voltage applications.
- Coordinate with external electrical vendors on site services required.
- Install, calibrate, and maintain instrumentation including temperature, pressure, density, and flow devices using 4-20mA loop systems.
- Take full ownership of calibration program within Packaging and Compounding.
- Interpret and update electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and control drawings.
- Maintain, test and ensure the functionality of electrical equipment protection systems, safety systems, and backup systems.
- Take full ownership of backing up control systems programs on Packaging and Manufacturing assets.
- Lead shutdown and startup of lines leading into and coming out of electrical shutdowns.
- Assist in maintaining Electrical MRO parts.
- Adhere strictly to LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) procedures and Arc Flash safety practices.
- Complete all GMP Documentation correctly and in a timely manner.
- Complete all training assignments and maintain personal training records.
- Participate in and/or lead Non-Conformance Investigations.
- Complete Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA's).
- Initiate, and follow through with actions required to close Change Controls.
- Participate in Internal, Customer and Regulatory Audits.
- All other duties as assigned.
Additional responsibility (Only applicable to customer facing roles)
Report any adverse event received from customers for company products to the pharmacovigilance department / Drug Safety on the same day or within 1 business day.
Qualifications
- Must have a diploma from a recognized institute as an Electrical Engineering Technologist or equivalent Engineering Technologist program or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in designing, developing, testing, and maintaining electrical and electronic equipment and systems would be an asset.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, SAP, PLC Back up Programs.
- Solid understanding of electrical deliverables: single line diagrams, layout drawings, schematics, panel schedules, and more.
- Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (CEC, OESC, National and Ontario Building Codes).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to do change controls, investigation and presentations.
- Solid problem-solving and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Working conditions
- The flexibility to work 12 hour continental / rotating / fixed / weekend shifts.
- Overtime may be requested as per business requirement within compliance. This may be additional time during the work week and / or on weekends with last minute notice. Must have flexibility to work a minimum of two weekends per month, at the discretion of business requirements.
- Use of G.M.P garments and Safety Equipment (PPE) as required.
Physical requirements
- At times a requirement to work in “confined spaces” to fix problems.
- A requirement to be sitting, standing, bending, squatting and walking throughout the day.
